Branding Creation and Design - Spring 2026
Adobe Illustrator, Indesign
Re-gen is a reading program targeted at teens, created specifically to fill a gap in the market and help tackle the current literacy crisis. The branding is bright, fun, and exciting to try and entice a younger audience. The goal was to create a tactile curriculum that was interesting to teens and to help them gain confidence in their reading capabilities.
Re-gen was my final capstone project that I completed to graduate from Oregon State University's graphic design program. The process required a research proposal as well as a physical manifestation of the project, which was then presented on May 28th 2026 in Portland, OR at the OSU capstone showcase, Horizons.
Research
Initial research was based on two questions, first what is contributing to the ongoing literacy crisis in kids today, and second what are the common steps that are taken to help a child improve their reading capabilities. It was found that reading programs are common choice for parents, and that the current digital landscape is a factor in how children are digesting information. Interviews with a teacher and a parent of a child who struggled with reading and writing confirmed these conclusions.
Logo Development
The name for the program came quite quickly, but the logo itself evolved many times. Initial ideas were more sophisticated which did not read as teen friendly. Many iterations of "RG" were tested before the "G" was finally dropped to reflect the name of the program, Re-gen.
Workbooks
Serving as the main method of communication, workbooks would be made to accompany each book that is a part of the curriculum. Each workbook would cover multiple chapters and feature a unique sketch on the front. Each new chapter would be visual differentiated through color and pattern to make it easier to reference and find if a teen is going back through notes.
In addition to being given workbooks, each teen would receive their own box to store all of the workbooks inside. This is to help with organization, while also emphasizing that the idea of no take-home work.
Deliverables
Bookmarks and stickers were produced to serve as take-aways at the capstone event. Shirts and business cards were physically produced in a limited quantity to flesh out the program and demonstrate how the branding could be expanded.
