Brand Identity - Spring 2026
Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, SketchUp
Updated branding, merchandise, and informational pieces for a local heritage museum located in Joseph, OR. Approached by the museum owner, we were asked to bring a more elevated feel while staying true to the historical nature of the town. The goal was to help draw in a wide audience, ranging from scholars to tourists.
The opportunity to work with this client came from being a part of FLUX Studio, a class at Oregon State University that operates as a graphic design studio. All projects are student led, and provide real-time experience working for clients. I was the project manager to a team of three. Outside of the design work, my job was to keep in regular communication with the client, schedule meetings, and lead presentations.
Updated Brand System
While the client wanted to freshen the current branding it was important that the 'M' contained within the square rake be kept, as a reference to the rake saws used to cut trees down. A new typographic system and color palette was requested, as well as a more clearly legible logo.
Bourbon was chosen as the main font for the logo to reflect the 1920-30's time period that the logging town was alive. Baskerville and Avenir were paired to help bring a refined rustic feel to the museum. For the color palette, we took inspiration from the surrounding nature in the area, reflecting both the evergreen trees and the changing leaf colors in Autumn.
Timeline
One of the larger pieces that was worked on was the timeline for the museum. Chronicling the start of the town and the influences from both the Native people and logging community, it was meant to be a prominent portion of the museum. Previous drafts of the timeline had read too wordy, and did not successfully reflect the historical significance of Maxville.
The entirety of the timeline was completed by myself. Taking inspiration from earlier drafts of the brochure, I included blocks of color to help ease the transition in the corners on the wall. Additionally, illustrations completed by a resident of Joseph, OR were provided to us. I utilized them throughout the timeline as way to help audiences gain a better understanding of Maxville as a town. A digital mock-up of how the timeline would look was created in Sketch-Up, and as of July 2026 the timeline has been installed.
